The last year has shown us how important health and fitness is for both physical and mental health.

Many of us took up new exercise regimens, and tried to add more healthy foods into our diet and fitness apps have soared in popularity to aid us on our way and monitor our progress.

These are the top 10 health apps in Ireland at the moment, which if you don’t have, are worth downloading to inspire you on your health journey.

As we’re trying to get outside as much as possible, many people are using Strava as a way to monitor their running or walking. They can use the app to see how far or how long they walked, ran or cycled, but the key component is that it’s it has special ‘social networking’ features that allow users to interact with each other, and even create trails and routes to compete on.

2. My Fitness Pal

At the beginning of a health journey, learning how many calories are in our food can be a real eye opener. While others like to also track their macros such as protein, fats and carbs. My Fitness Pal is the most convenient way to track your calorie intake over the day, just takes a little practice.

3. Fitbit

As well as tracking food, tracking steps has become very popular, with many people aiming to hit the recommended 10,000 steps a day. Having a Fitbit watch on your arm means you can easily track your steps and you can track your data on the complementary app.

4. Map my Run by Under Armour

Another great app people like to use to track their runs. What’s great with this is that you can plan your route in advance to make sure you’re getting the right mileage.

January can bring to the forefront a lot of anxiety and stress for people, this year more so than ever. The Calm app is now one of the popular apps to help for meditation and helping to get to sleep with guided meditations and music available.

With running becoming very trendy in the last year, people are using the Nike Run Club app to track their running progress and customise distance challenges.
